A TEXT POST

TAYLOR SWIFT IN 2008:

Interviewer: When do you splurge? What makes you really go out and blow some cash?

Taylor: When I do splurge, my weakness is two things. Little dresses are my weakness. […] But as far as another thing that I splurge on - cards, like stationery and letters. […]

Interviewer: So we’re not sitting here talking about this house in the Bahamas. You’re talking about stationery. You realize what an unusual celebrity you are. I’m just saying…

Taylor: I love stationery.

Interviewer: But you can buy the store.

Taylor: I buy lots of stationery and I like really glittery. I like stationery a lot. I don’t need a house in the Bahamas right now. But I do need stationery.

TAYLOR SWIFT IN 2013:

Interviewer: And since your birthday’s coming up, why don’t you go ahead and put it out there, what do you want for your birthday?

Taylor: What do I want for my birthday…

Interviewer: Your mom’s listening, she’s right here.

Taylor: Ummm…I don’t know. I kind of could use some, like, workout clothes.

Interviewer: Come on!

Taylor: What?

Interviewer: Workout clothes?

Taylor: That’s what I need right now. Like, I’m kind of running low on tank tops and, like, stretch pants.

Interviewer: I can’t with you. You could have anything in the world and you want workout clothes?

Taylor: What else would I want? I don’t really need anything. Like, what, clothes for my cat or something? I don’t have much of, like, ‘Oh, I really want a motorcycle.’ Like, what am I gonna do with that? Or, like, ‘I really want a million-dollar car.’ No, I don’t want that at all.

A QUOTE

At the end of the night, what sets Taylor Swift apart from the pack is that even in a crowd of close to 20,000 people, she can still shoot for — and achieve — emotional intimacy. When talking to her audience, it wasn’t just asking them how they were doing or if they were having a good time, she was getting personal, sharing the stories of songs such as the afore-mentioned “All Too Well,” or “Mean.” Not only did Swift prove once again how well she knows and respects her audience, she also let her guard down very effectively, as well – giving the fans a chance to see inside the artist. And, from that standpoint, nobody else is doing it better.
